Shiro Poporoya hosts the press conference for Italy Sushi Cup

Preparations continue for the first edition of Italy Sushi Cup, the competition that will crown the best Italian sushiman. On the 26th of February, the press conference for the event was held in an exceptional venue – the Shiro Poporoya restaurant in Milan, an embodiment of high-level Japanese cuisine managed by the family of Italy sushi pioneer, Minoru Hirazawa.

The renowned chef and President of AIRG – the Italian Association of Japanese Restaurateurs organizing the event – took part in the presentation alongside WSSI Director Hirotoshi Ogawa and Massimo Magistrini, Purchasing Manager of Mundi Riso.

The Vercelli-based rice company supports the Sushi Cup – not only the Italian edition but also throughout Europe – with its sushi rice brand, New Kenji Premium, as a Partner and as the product used in the competitions. This is what the Mundi Riso executive commented: “Our philosophy has always been to pursue the highest quality standards. Providing such prominent personalities with our rice… I believe there is nothing more satisfying and exciting in our field.”

Italy Sushi Cup invites all professionals in the art of sushi to Vercelli, the European Rice Capital, in the professional kitchen of Ciosf on the 28th of May 2025. Prior to the contest, two days of intensive training will be held on the 26th and the 27th of May. The event enjoys the Patronage of the Consulate General of Japan in Milan, the Piedmont Region, the Province of Vercelli and the City of Vercelli.
